Angel Corella brings ballet to City Center
Last night I went out to catch Angel Corella in a very interesting ballet. It was all luke warm, but then Angel and his sister stepped out and did a dance with a very Spanish/Flamenco vibe and it gave my friend and I goosebumps! It was the best thing they could have done and on it's own was worth the 20 bucks I paid to get in. His power and precision combined with her grace and elegance was something to remember. The other thing to remember was the out of control tranny with a bad weave that was trying to get better seats. People could not take their eyes off her! lol.The amazing photograph above is by Ruven Afanador.

I used to have a vespa like this when I was about 3. I wish I could find the picture of me playing with it. I'm learning how to drive too, so you never know. I might be sporting one like this guy in a years time...Via The Sartorialist

Tim Burton's Alice was lackluster
I adore Tim Burton and I usually drool over Mr. Depp, but in this case I feel I was let down. Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland did not seem like a Burton film at all. There was no real genre to this and I don't have any idea where to classify it. The fact that I even have to think about it is bizarre. I think the problem lies in the fact that there wasn't enough of a change from the original to make it interesting. hmmm. Even IMAX 3D wasn't enough to wow me. Something is terribly wrong.

Au Revoir Zucco
One of my favorite NYC restaurants is mourning the death of it's owner this week. I love going to Zucco and sitting by the chefs so I can peek at how they make all the yummy food. Zucco would be there sometimes and I would ask him about random polaroids he has all over the tiny restaurant. He was always very friendly and I'm glad he knew how much I loved his food, because I would always tell him. I need to go back and stuff my face in memoriam. It's the only way I can pay tribute to this amazing establishment.Zucco: Le French Diner

McQueen's last collection

Here are some images of the last collection the late Alexander McQueen designed. This is very regal and powerful. Only a very self assured woman can pull this off, but if she does she will be the most fabulous of them all. This all has such an amazing eye for detail and the colors are vivid. they literally pop off the screen. My favorites are the first two dresses on this post. Enjoy.

You must watch The Cove!

The Cove exposes the slaughter of more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises in Taiji, Japan every year, and how their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan and other parts of Asia, often labeled as whale meat. The majority of the world is not aware this is happening as the Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. The focus of the Social Action Campaign for The Cove is to create worldwide awareness of this annual practice as well as the dangers of eating seafood contaminated with mercury and to pressure those in power to put an end to the slaughter.
The film has been making waves since it premiered last year. Critical praise and audience awards worldwide have focused international attention on Taiji and the annual dolphin drives off the coast of Japan. Under intense pressure, Taiji called for a temporary ban on killing bottlenose dolphins. The film, which was originally rejected, was shown at the Tokyo Film Festival due to public outcry. Residents in Taiji are being tested for mercury poisoning, and for the first time Japanese media are covering the issue.
Close to a million people have signed on to the campaign, but this is just the beginning. The fisherman are clearly rattled, but haven’t stopped killing dolphins. Maybe now that the cove has won the academy award for best documentary it can gain more momentum and attention.
TakePart now to help shut down the cove for good.

OYA dazzles the senses

Last night I finally got the opportunity to eat at OYA in Washington D.C. I was impressed with the decor and detailed touches. It's great when you go somewhere to eat, but can also find stimulation in the visual aesthetic of design. There seemed to be many different textures and colors to look at and the modern fireplace in dining room was very interesting. The food, from the appetizers to the desserts, were not only delicious, but very well thought out. The short rib appetizer was sort of a "wow" moment, as were the perfectly cooked tuna tempura rolls. The beef sirloin entree was perfectly cooked and was accompanied by fresh vegetables that were roasted to perfection. All of these dishes made me want to go back and try everything!
You must try the pineapple turnover cake with a side of vanilla bean ice cream. It was savory, the cake itself was light and airy, and the vanilla complimented the dish perfectly. A true orgasm in your mouth.
By the way, no hats or frumpy clothes here please. The hostess will let you know to take off your hat is she has to. These people have a certain look to uphold and rightfully so. Also, do not get intimidated by all the people drinking at the bar. This hot spot can become crowded with good looking people in the bar and lounge area that can get loud. I don't think this affected my meal at all, but some people like a more quiet type of place. Go before 8pm during the week if you want to avoid this type of scene.

The Fabulous Newlyweds: Cathy and Jason

Congratulations to the happy couple! I had so much fun at this wedding. The bride looked absolutely stunning in a dress made by Bolivian bridal couture designer Maria. I saw this dress up close and personal and I was amazed at the attention to detail and the fit. This is the perfect fairytale wedding dress so you better WORK that Disney couture! haha.Monday, March 01, 2010
Rudeboy, can you get it up?
I am loving Rihanna's new video for her song "Rudeboy"! The colors are popping out of the T.V and into my brain. I think I need a funky hat for the summer. Something with sparkles, but still hood...like something the fresh prince of Bel air would wear. lol

Get the look: The Fabulous Mom

(Hat: The Hat Shop in SoHo, Dress/cardigan/belt/leggings: H&M, Shoes: Payless)
I had the great honor of styling my mom for Cathy and Jason's wedding this last weekend. I have to say it was a lot easier than I thought. We went to a few stores, but everything was bland and a lot of the shops now only carry the spring items. We ended up, of all places, at H&M. I am still shocked at all the good pieces we found. Most of her outfit; The dress, cardigan, leggings, and belt were all picked up at the store for about $90.00.The dress looks great on it's own, but I liked the idea of layers, since its cold out, and getting to use that awesome big belt. We layered in the cardigan and put the belt on top. The shoes are Payless and I was hesitant to go and try them at first, but I am realizing that this store has been around forever for a reason. They imitate very popular styles for a very low price point.
The last touch was a hat my mom is wearing. It's from the Hat Shop in SoHo. I ended up giving it to her because she looks way better than I ever did in the hat. She deserves to own it. The look is a little bit casual for a wedding, but it is definitely polished and wearable. My mom does not like to make a fuss, so this was perfect. make a slick pony tail to go with this look if you don't have a hat to wear.
How amazing does my mom look? I will have more pics of us at the wedding over the next few days. Stay tuned for updates because there are better pictures that showcase the outfit.

The last thing you need when you are getting married is thinking "are the pictures going to come out OK?" on your wedding day. Let Amber Knowles capture your most classic and intimate moments with her amazing attention to detail and very unique style. The Dove Parlour is for grown-ups

It's hard to find grown up places to hang out around the NYU campus, but I think The Dove Parlour has managed to attract a very mature crowd. This place sells itself on the idea of being a wine bar, but it has a full bar and also carries snacks. The decor is elegant and the wallpaper is great for a Polaroid background. It's best to go here with a group so that you can reserve one of the 2 awesome corners in the joint. They have great leather sofas and it makes all the difference to be in an island with your peeps, because if not you might get lost in the shuffle.

Eating healthy/ Feeling fabulous part 2- Asian noodles in peanut sauce
Here we go again! This time I made some amazing noodles in peanut sauce that really blew me away. The great thing about this meal is that you can really substitute a lot of the ingredients to cater to your taste palate. You can play around with which veggies you end up using. You can also use shrimp, tofu, or chicken to replace the seitan. Just make sure you add what you like. My one advice is to make sure that you don't make the peanut butter sauce too thick. You need to be able to use this sauce to coat all the veggies and pasta with flavor and if the sauce is too thick you wont be able to do that. Add more water and tamari if you need to thin it out. Thanks again to Juliana Brafa for giving me this recipe.8 ounces spelt soba noodles (or any other pasta)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 carrots, cut into half moons
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 bunch bok choy, chopped
8 ounces seitan, chopped
1/2 cup chunky natural peanut butter
3 tablespoons tamari
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon brown rice vinegar
2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
1 clove of garlic, pressed or crushed and finely chopped
pinch red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 scallions, sliced
Procedure:
1. Boil Pasta according to package directions.
2. While pasta is boiling, sautee carrots and onions in olive oil until softened. Add pepper, bok choy and seitan. Cook until all vegetables are soft. Set aside.
3. In a medium bowl combine all of the remaining ingredients, except scallions, and whisk until well combined.
4. Combine drained pasta, sauteed vegetables, and peanut sauce. Garnish with scallions.
5. Serve warm or cold.

It's tranny time!
RuPaul's Drag race is back tonight with the Premiere of season 2! i saw a little preview of all the contestants online and I have to say this season is sure to be a reality TV treat. You know how every show has that one person that is labeled "the bitch"? Well, it looks like on this show everyone is "the bitch" and they are all out for blood. Vampire blood sucking trannies are coming to get you every Monday at 9PM on the LOGO channel. WERK!To fur or not to fur
I have never been a huge fan of fur. I'm not exactly in the street protesting or throwing red paint on people, but i try to do my own part by not buying fur and getting fake leather when I can (and it looks good). However, this fabulous outfit is making me wanna throw myself in some fur and roll around in it. She looks lovely and her accessories really bring an extra level of sophistication. I don't know who this woman is, but she is officially working it.Via The Sartorialist

It's restaurant week!
Well, it's actually restaurant weeks (plural) because this year NYC has decided that one week is just not enough to get all that eating done. The dates for this Winter are January 25th- February 7th. This is a great opportunity to try a place that you normally would not try because of budget concerns. All of the restaurants listed have a special something going on, but I am only listing my top 10 picks. Remember that these are three course meals for only $24.07 (lunch) and $35.00 (dinner).TIPS: Make sure you look to see if the offer is valid on the weekends. Also, you might want to skip an appetizer and dessert in order to get some other entree you see on the regular menu.

Everyone needs a little Ground Support

Cristina has once again proven her loyalty to me by introducing me to a relatively new coffee shop called Ground Support. Pretty clever, right? We stopped by the cafe last week to catch up and chat, but while I was waiting for Cristina to show up I had the most interesting thing happen. I fell in love with a cookie. I am not usually a cookie person. I can be a cake person or a chocolate person, but cookies and I usually do not mix. The only other cookie that I would fight someone over is the Alfajor cookies at the Aroma cafe on Houston. This was a ginger cookie (of all things) and not only was it nice and soft on the inside, but the cookie itself seemed to be talking to me. It's smooth ginger flavor was not overpowering, as ginger flavored things often tend to be. In the minutes that I sat there alone, waiting for Cristina, I was so involved with the cookie that I almost forgot I was waiting for anyone at all. I also had a great coconut/almond tea that left me wanting more. Cristina says she keeps coming back here because the barista makes a heart in her coffee, but I think it has something to do with the flavor as well. The fact that they have a sandwich special is also a good incentive to check this place out. Do you really need any more reasons after the account I have given on this ginger cookie? Well, maybe the cool pieces of tree trunk furniture will lure you in.
